INSTAGRAM

Instagram was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and was launched on October 6, 2010. Systrom, who was working as a product manager at Google, came up with the idea for a photo-sharing app while studying at Stanford University. Krieger, who was studying at the Stanford School of Engineering, joined the team shortly after.

Initially, Instagram was only available on the Apple App Store, but it was later released for Android devices in 2012. Instagram quickly became popular, and by April 2012, it had over 30 million registered users.

As for the ownership of Instagram, Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger remained with the company until 2018 when they announced their resignations. Today, Instagram is owned by Facebook and is led by CEO Adam Mosseri.
